5 Ways to Start Detox

If you feel like you are “too busy” to detox, or if you just want to dip your toe in the water before making a big commitment, it can help to ease into the idea by changing just a couple of things at a time. Here are 5 effective ways that you can encourage your body to eliminate toxins everyday, that will help you feel motivated to explore detoxing further.



Start the day right

First thing in the morning, mix a glass of warm water with either the juice of half a lemon, or 2 teaspoons of apple cider vinegar. Sipping this slowly will help to fire up your digestion for the day, increasing digestive enzymes and reducing bloating. It is also fantastic for alkalizing your body. If you feel cold, run down, or are just particularly hardcore, add a pinch of cayenne pepper to fire up your body even more.

Green juices

Green veggies are alkalizing, blood cleansing and full of phytonutrients. If you don’t have time for fancy detox supplements, just have 1-2 green juices per day and your body will feel more cleansed and revitalized in no time.

Eat fermented foods

Yoghurt, sauerkraut, kimchi and kefir all have millions of living, beneficial bacteria in them. These bacteria help to heal your digestive system, reduce bloating, boost your immune system and are essential for anyone with IBS, reflux, sluggish digestion or food allergies.

Sweat it out!

Saunas, hot yoga, or just even a plain old sweaty workout at the gym all open the pores and allow toxins to release via the skin. If the liver has been dealing with a lot of toxins like alcohol, coffee and medications, the skin often becomes congested and dull. Sweating out the bad stuff a few times per week helps to bring back your healthy glow as skin becomes smoother and more radiant.

Fibre

Fibre helps to draw toxins out of the bowel and speeds up elimination. Try adding psyllium husks or chia seeds to a smoothie, or have porridge with rolled oats for breakfast, and don’t forget to drink plenty of water as these fibre rich foods like to soak it up.
