The Importance of Natural Skincare

We often hear of the health risks associated with eating processed foods – those high in sugar, preservatives, artificial colours & flavours etc but we don’t often hear about the dangers associated with the quality of our skincare.

Our skin is the gateway to our internal system. It is the largest organ of the body and absorbs more than 70% of what it comes into contact with, in as little as 26 seconds straight into the bloodstream. Meaning that everything from the fabric in the clothes you wear, to the quality of tap water you shower in, and of course the cosmetics you apply – will all be absorbed and affect your organs either positively or negatively.

Cheap clothing dyes, synthetic fabrics, town water laced with chlorine & fluoride and common cosmetics can all significantly affect your health and may be poisoning your liver on a daily basis. Most, if not all, common cosmetics that you buy from supermarkets and even the high-end products that come from designer brands & department stores all contain an array of toxic parabens, sulphates, artificial colours & fragrances. Expensive products which claim to be ‘anti-aging’ usually do exactly the opposite. The ingredients often dry out the skin, prohibit the production of your own natural collagen, and begin a vicious cycle of needing to apply more & more just to increase product sales. We recommend that you clear out your cabinet and get rid of anything that contains ingredients you can’t pronounce.

The good news – there is a growing number of truly beautiful, nourishing natural products on the market today which will actually prevent the signs of aging, heal scars/skin disorders/acne etc and add luster to your complexion without harming yourself or the planet. Natural skin care products have been used for thousands of years, they come in the form of beautiful cold-pressed oils, organic, wild-harvested herbs, flowers, spices and lovely essential oils which provide a totally natural aroma which can also have amazing mood-stabilising qualities. Because natural skincare is safe, it is usually not tested on animals, nor does it contain any animal products. All ingredients are biodegradable and won’t harm the planet.

We often share delicious recipes for making your own skincare products at home, it’s that simple! But if you prefer to opt for a curated version – we love local brand Raw Beauty Naturally. Their skincare has been crafted using Australian organic & wild harvested ingredients and blended with the purest essential oils to create a natural, vegan & certified cruelty- free range.
